Miika Lehtonen is a Consulting Special Education Primary School Teacher, Consultant and Researcher.

He has edited and authored publications and articles in Finnish and English, in conferences, books and scientific journals.

He is completing his PhD and obtained his MSc (Education) from the University of Turku, Turku, Finland. Formerly he has worked as a senior research associate, at the University of Lapland and as a researcher at Doctoral Programme for Multidisciplinary Research on Learning Environments.

He has previously worked in the MOMENTS (Models and Methods for Future Knowledge Construction: Interdisciplinary Implementations with Mobile Technologies) -project. His research and development has focused on developing socioemotionally engaging and experiential playful and game based pedagogical models based on CSCL and socio-mental tools learning.

His main interests lie at the research area proven effective pedagogical models, programs for reducing children's mental problems, aggression and behavior problems and increasing social competence at home and at daycare and schools. Also Computer-Assisted early years learning and rehabilitation, using playful, game-based and interactive, emotionally engaging tools and pedagogical models is an area of research interest. He has utilized e.g. the Montessori pedagogy, Vygotskian and neoGalperian ideas of ‘mental tools’ or ‘mindtools’, theories of emotionality in learning and developed Web based pedagogical agent orientation in these contexts.
