Dr Ary Serpa Neto has his degree in Medicine from the Faculdade de Medicina do ABC (2004 - 2009), his Master of Health Sciences (2009 - 2010) and clinical training in Internal Medicine from the same institution (2010 - 2012). He was fellow of the CNPq (2008 - 2009), resident in Intensive Care Medicine by the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (2012 - 2014), PhD from the Department of Pulmonology, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo (FMUSP-INCOR) and Post-Doctoral from the Department of Intensive Care, Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA). He is currently physician in the Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein and Researcher Level 2 of Instituto Israelita de Ensino e Pesquisa Albert Einstein.


In the Critical Care Medicine Department of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein and in the Intensive Care Department of Academic Medical Center form the University of Amsterdam, current clinical research conducted by Ary Serpa Neto focuses on lung injury caused by mechanical ventilation, i.e., ventilator-induced injury to lung cells and lung tissue, to the lungs as a complete organ and also to distant organs. In this research, Serpa Neto tests new mechanical ventilation strategies - several of them developed in the laboratory - for preventing or treating mechanical ventilation-induced lung injury.

Ary Serpa Neto is member of the core steering committee and Epidemiologist of the PROVENet ("Protective Ventilation Network").
