Dr. Bola Afolabi is an experienced oil and gas professional with over three decades of experience in both the upstream and downstream sectors. He is a globally recognized contracting and procurement strategist, a commercially oriented individual, and a leading figure in supply chain practice in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.

Dr. Afolabi retired as the NNPC Group General Manager of Research & Development (R&D), where he served as the Chief Executive Officer for the NNPC's science and technology research center. Before his time at NNPC, he served as the Group General Manager of LNG Investment, responsible for managing Nigeria's investment in all LNG ventures (NLNG, Brass, OKLNG etc.) and has held senior roles in IT and transformation.

Prior to joining NNPC, Dr. Afolabi spent over two decades with Shell Petroleum Development Company and retired as Senior Adviser - Supply Chain. He has a wealth of experience leading successful change initiatives that have translated into multi-million-dollar savings and process improvements.

Dr. Afolabi received his undergraduate degree in Transportation Planning from the Centre for Business Studies in the UK, a Master of Science degree in Marine Transportation from the State University of New York, Maritime College in the USA, and his Ph.D. in Regional Development & Environmental Science from the University of Port Harcourt.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), UK, and was elected to its governing council as pioneer Councilor representing Africa. He later became a Council and Board member and was appointed Vice President in 2008 and Global President in 2009, becoming the first non-European to be appointed President of the world body on supply chain management.

Dr. Afolabi attended several senior management development programs at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, and Cranfield. He has contributed immensely to the emergence of the Public Procurement Act and was appointed Adjunct Professor of Strategic Supply Chain by the University of Fort Hare, South Africa in 2007, where he supervised post-graduate students and promoted academic research.

Bola Afolabi is a consultant per excellence, teaching MBA Strategic Supply Chain at the Malaysian University of Science & Technology, Lagos and Abuja Campuses, and has numerous consultancy roles in oil and gas, strategic supply chain management, commercial leadership, arbitration, business planning & development, and a host of other cutting-edge consultancy services including investment advisory, forex AI intelligentsia, and capital market trading.

Afolabi always demonstrates his huge capacity through his involvement in professional and social development. In 2010, he hosted the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and many local and international dignitaries during his tenure as Captain of IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja, to celebrate Nigeria's 50th independence anniversary. He is a regular resource at many management development programs.

Dr. Afolabi is a recipient of the Life-Time Achiever Award in Supply Chain Excellence, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Chartered Arbitrators. He is also a golfer and an author, with articles and published academic works to his credit, among other enviable recognitions.

Bola Afolabi is recognized as a supply chain subject matter expert and has gained many awards, including but not limited to, the Life-Time Achievement Award for excellence in Supply Chain from CIPS Int. in 2014, NNPC Top Management commendation for excellent service delivery in 2009, the first non-European Global President, Board and Council member of CIPS, UK, recipient of the Top 25 World Procurement Superstars among 97,000 global leaders in Supply Chain Management, United Kingdom, November 2006, the International award of Excellence for contribution into the profession of Procurement & Supply Chain Management.


Apart from his professional accomplishments, Bola Afolabi is also actively involved in community service. He has been involved in several philanthropic causes over the years.

In recognition of his contributions to society, Dr. Afolabi has received numerous awards and recognitions. In 2014, he was awarded the Life-Time Achievement Award for excellence in Supply Chain by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) International. He has also been recognized as one of the Top 25 World Procurement Superstars among 97,000 global leaders in Supply Chain Management by the United Kingdom in November 2006. In May 2008, he received the International Award of Excellence for his contribution to the profession of Procurement & Supply Chain Management in South Africa.

Dr. Afolabi is a prolific author and has published several academic works and articles. He is also a sought-after speaker and has delivered keynote addresses at several international conferences and events. He is a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Chartered Arbitrators and a member of several professional bodies.

Despite his numerous achievements, Dr. Afolabi remains humble and always eager to learn. He is a mentor to many young professionals and is known for his dedication to excellence and integrity. He is happily married and blessed with children.
