Charlie Steg was born on April 12, 1980 in Hoboken, New Jersey, the city where he lives and where he has his art studio. He graduated in 2003 from the Montclair State University with a Master's Degree in Fine Arts. The passion for drawing and painting has always accompanied him in parallel. During the last years, the materialization of his professional artistic project has focused on abstract painting. Charlie Steg is interested in finding new methods using mixed techniques to express his ideas in an innovative way. Colourful acrylics with different mixtures and textures on canvas or sheet, proposed as a form of action painting, where he will never know how each work will end, as he does not have a closed idea when he starts painting. Charlie Steg has been involved with several individual and collaborative artist projects over the past 18 years. He have exhibited across the United States and have been added to various collections. In his current work, Charlie Steg employs a process driven call & response approach with the aesthetic goal of balancing shifting degrees of chaos and potential through the orchestration of organic and geometric structures. His paintings and commissions are included in many private collections.
While he is primarily known as a painter, he also does extensive work with lithographs and woodcuts. Charlie works in the tradition of the great American nature painters using the landscape as the inspiration for his abstract imagery. In his work the outer world is internalized; the inner world is manifested in visible form."
