Associate Professor in Pedology and Soil Chemistry at the Department of Agronomy Food Natural resources Animals and Environment (DAFNAE), University of Padova.
Research has mainly focused on Soil Chemistry and Pedology, with particular regard to: Disaggregation of humic substances (HS) and their biological activity, Effect of root exudates on the disaggregation of HS in the rhizosphere, Hormonal activity of HS, Evolutionary status and quality of organic matter in biomass and compost, Pedological processes in forest and agricultural environments, Land use change and biological activity of forest humus in relation to forest regeneration, Interactions between amino acids and mineralogical phases during the "pathway" of diagenetic transformations. Biodiversity of soil bacterial and fungal communities, Salinization of soils in the lower Venetian plain, Evolution of organic matter in vineyard soils, Effect of pedoclimatic conditions and cultivation techniques on microelement and trace element composition in grapevines, Use of grapevine shoots and grape pomace for compost production, Characterization of an ANAMMOX (Anaerobic AMMonia Oxidation) microbial consortium, Development of new devices for measuring soil vitality and fertility, Study of SNPs associated with resistance to rhizomania, fusarium wilt, and nematodes, and root system traits linked to productivity, DNA extraction from soil and amplification and quantification analysis in Real-time PCR of bioindicator microbial genes, Analysis of earthworm fauna, Multi-enzymatic soil analysis, Soil gas-analysis.
Graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Padova in 1985. Vice-director of the Production of Mycelium Laboratory (King Spawn, Quero, BL) of Funghi del Montello SpA from 1986 to 1988. Scholarship at the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology (UniPD) from 1989 to 1990 (funded by ESAV) and in 1992 (funded by CNR-RAISA project). R&D Director of Heligenetics SpA (Gaiba, Rovigo, Italy) in 1991. Research assistant from 1993 to 1998. Researcher from 1998 and Associate Professor from 2015.
He is a member of the International Humic Substances Society, of the Italian Society of Soil Chemistry, of the Italian Society of Pedology, of the Italian Society of Soil Science and of the International Union of Soil Sciences.
He was involved in several multidisciplinary projects (CNR, MURST, University of Padova, AGER-SEESPIG, PROSECCO measure 124 Veneto, VENETERROIR measure 124 Veneto, BIOFUTURE measure 16 PSR Veneto, RES4CARBON measure 16.1.1-16.2.1 Veneto Region, BETBIO measure 16.1.1-16.2.1 Veneto Region, CARBOVIT measure SRG 01 OS4 Veneto Region, BIOCONIMPRO measure SRG 01 OS5 Veneto Region, VIKI measure SRG 01 OS5 Veneto Region.
He has co-authored over 280 publications including peer review journal papers, book chapters, and national and international conference proceedings.
