Associate Professor in Pedology and Soil Chemistry at the Department of Agronomy Food Natural resources Animals and Environment (DAFNAE), University of Padova.
The main research topics are biological activity of soil humus; evolution of organic matter both in fields and in pilot-composting experiments; role of root exudates in the disaggregation of humic substances in the rhizosphere; pedological processes in cultivated and forest soils; role of organic matter within bio-mineralization processes (geochemical and sedimentological approach); biodiversity of soil bacterial and fungal community; accumulation and distribution pattern of macro- and micro-elements and trace elements in grape; use of vine shoots and vinasse for the production of compost; characterization of a microbial consortium Anammox for the removal of nitrogen from agro-industrial wastes; new devices for the measurement of the fertility of the soil; development of high-throughput genotyping techniques for the identification of SNPs associated with sugar beet resistance to rhizomania, fusarium and nematodes, and to radical apparatus characters related to productivity.
Graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Padova in 1985. Vice-director of the Production of Mycelium Laboratory (King Spawn, Quero, BL) of Funghi del Montello SpA from 1986 to 1988. Scholarship at the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology (UniPD) from 1989 to 1990 (funded by ESAV) and in 1992 (funded by CNR-RAISA project). R&D Director of Heligenetics SpA (Gaiba, Rovigo, Italy) in 1991. Research assistant from 1993 to 1998. Researcher from 1998 and Associate Professor from 2015.
He is a member of the International Humic Substances Society, of the Italian Society of Soil Chemistry, of the Italian Society of Pedology, of the Italian Society of Soil Science and of the International Union of Soil Sciences.
He was involved in several multidisciplinary projects (CNR, MURST, University of Padova, AGER-SEESPIG, PROSECCO Misura 124 Veneto, VENETERROIR Misura 124 Veneto, BIOFUTURE Misura 16 PSR Veneto).
He has co-authored over 230 publications including peer review journal papers, book chapters, and national and international conference proceedings.
