In 2000 Davide Tiranti received an M.Sc. degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Torino (Italy) with a thesis on genesis and evolution of Plio-Quaternary carbonate breccias (pseudocarniole) similar to Triassic evaporites (carniole) in upper Susa Valley (Western Italian Alps).

In 2008 he then obtained a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of Torino (Italy) with tutoring by the Cambridge Quaternary, Department of Geography, University of Cambridge (UK) for a research on triggering mechanisms and sedimentary processes of sediment gravity flows in Western Alps.

After graduation Davide has collaborated two years (2001-2002) with the Department of Soil Defence, University of Calabria (Italy) as external researcher involved in landslides triggering causes study.

In 2003 he has become a Chartered Geologist for the Italian Government at the University of Torino (Italy).

Since 2004 Davide works in the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Piemonte (Torino, Italy) as geologist developing early warning systems for landslides and channelized debris flows. Moreover, he plays the role of flood defence officer and he also took care of seismic data interpretation from Regional Seismic network of North-western Italy.

Since 2007 Davide has been a Guest Lecturer and Theses Advisor at the Department of Earth Sciences and at the Course of Studies in Nature Sciences - University of Torino (Italy) - as well as at the Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructures Engineering and at the Department of Land, Environment and Geotechnology - Politecnico di Torino (Italy) - where he lectures “modelling and forecasting of landslides and debris flows” to the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.

Davide is also involved in international research projects dealing with: estimation and forecasting of triggering causes of landslides and debris flows, climate change impacts on alpine environment, hydro-geomorphological hazard and alpine seismic hazard evaluation.
