Prof. Debapriya Mukhopadhyay was born on March 24, 1986, in Bankura, West Bengal, India. He spent his early years in the serene and culturally rich environment of Bankura, where he developed a deep appreciation for community and service. His father, Dr. Harinath Mukherjee, played a pivotal role in shaping his career and values. He was a dedicated medical professional, and his commitment to serving the underprivileged inspired me from a young age.

Although he was an average student academically, he was known for his good behavior and soft-spoken nature. He attended Shibpur Dinabandhu Institution Branch School, Howrah Zilla School, and B.K. Pal’s Institution in Howrah. Despite managing his studies and health challenges, he graduated from higher secondary school in 2004.

His academic journey in optometry began at Vidyasagar College of Optometry & Vision Science, where he completed his Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom). He furthered his studies with a Master of Optometry (M.Optom) from Bharati Vidyapeeth University Medical College School of Optometry. To complement his knowledge, he pursued an MBA from Symbiosis International University and a PhD from the Swiss School of Management Barcelona. These educational experiences equipped me with a robust clinical practice and management foundation.

Professionally, he has always been driven by a desire to explore and innovate within the field of optometry. In 2003, he began providing eye care services in rural villages, often working alongside his father. These early experiences highlighted the critical need for accessible eye care in underserved communities. This realization led him to establish the Debapriya Mukhopadhyay Vision Research Institute & Foundation, with a mission to advance vision research and improve community eye health, particularly in rural areas.

His work in optometry has been multifaceted. He has served in various capacities, including as an optometry professional, educator, and entrepreneur. He is a Fellow of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry in Binocular Vision and a member of several professional organizations, including the Indian Optometry Association, the World Council of Optometry, and the American Academy of Optometry. These affiliations have provided him with valuable opportunities to collaborate with peers and contribute to the advancement of the field.

One of his most significant professional achievements has been the establishment of the Debapriya Mukhopadhyay Vision Research Institute and Foundation. This institute is dedicated to conducting cutting-edge education methodologies and research.

In addition to his professional endeavors, he is deeply committed to philanthropy. He believes that access to quality eye care is a fundamental right, and he has dedicated his career to making this a reality for as many people as possible. His philanthropic efforts have focused on delivering eye care services to underprivileged communities in rural India. Through our foundation, we have reached thousands of individuals, providing them with essential eye care services and improving their quality of life.

His personal journey has been marked by resilience and a commitment to continuous improvement. Despite the challenges posed by his health condition, he remained focused on goals and has strived to make a positive impact in the field of optometry. Experiences have taught him the importance of perseverance, empathy, and the power of community.

In conclusion, his journey in optometry and philanthropy has been driven by a deep commitment to improving community eye health and advancing vision research. He is grateful for the support of his family, colleagues, and the communities he serves. He focused on educational quality and construct through research, with freedom of mind. He believes that we can continue to make a positive impact together and ensure that everyone can see.
