Erik Samoy holds a PhD in sociology from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium (KU Leuven) on employment policies for the disabled and has a lifelong experience in social research. He is currently working as a policy officer at the Department of Work and Social Economy of the Flemish Community (Belgium). He has done research on social welfare and disability and published comparative studies commissioned by the Belgian State Secretary for Families and Disabled Persons (on benefit traps), the European Union (on sheltered employment, available in English, French, Dutch, German and Japanese) and the Council of Europe (on sheltered employment, available in English, French and Croatian) and the French Ministry of Employment and Solidarity (on direct payments, French only).
