With a degree in Forestry and Environmental Sciences obtained in 2005, Flavio Ruffinatto in 2012 acquires the title of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) defending a thesis in the field of wood identification applied to cultural artefacts.
From 2013 he works, with his Wood Identification Laboratory, as a private consultant in the field of wood identification and wood technology, actively cooperating with Universities and research centers.
From 2005 to 2013 he joined the former department of Agronomy, Selvicolture and Land Management of Turin (now DiSASA), where he has conducted researches on different topics related to wood identification, diagnostics on wooden cultural artefacts, wood properties and wood supply chain.
In 2010 and 2011 he has worked at the Center for Wood Anatomy Research of the Forest Products Laboratory (Madison, WI), where he has specially expanded his skills in wood identification, with a particular focus on methods of combating wood illegal trade.
Active since 2005 in the teaching of wood identification and wood technology, since 2012 he is a Fellow in Wood Technology. He has been a contract professor in Wood Technology at the University of Turin in 2011 and 2012.
