Fotini N. Lamari is Associate Professor of the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products/Department of Pharmacy/ University of Patras.
Dr Fotini Lamari was born and raised in Patras and received her B.A. degree in Chemistry from the University of Patras. In 1996, she began her graduate studies in biochemical analysis at the same University. Under the direction of Professor Nikos K. Karamanos, she developed immunoassays for quality screening of immunoglobulin preparations and monitoring the therapeutic outcome of their administration, and obtained her Ph. D. degree in 2000. During 1997-1998, she was a research fellow in the laboratory of Professor Anders Hjerpe at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, where she developed sensitive analytical methods for structural analysis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. She continued this work in the laboratory of Prof. N.K. Karamanos during 2000 and 2003 and during short periods in the laboratory of Prof. R. Kuhn, in Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences, Germany. In 2003, she was appointed as a lecturer at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Patras and she got involved in structure-function studies of synthetic peptide analogues and other natural products. She has co-authored 65 publications in scientific journals with peer review system and 7 chapters in international scientific books. She has received scholarships from the Hellenic State Scholarships’ foundation, the Swedish Institute and the 2011 L'Oreal-Unesco national award "For Women in Science" in the field of Biosciences. She is an active member of the Association of the Greek Chemists, the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Hellenic Research Club for Connective Tissue and Matrix Biology, European Peptide Society and the Society for Medicinal Plant Research (GA).
