Hans Ulrich Scherer

Hans Ulrich Scherer (Uli) (1975) studied medicine at the Free University Berlin, the Humboldt University Berlin and at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, Germany.
He has been a doctoral student at the Department of Immunology, Institute for Cell Biology, at Tübingen University, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. H.-G. Rammensee (1999 - 2001). He has been a PhD student at the Department of Rheumatology, Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands under supervision of Prof. R.E.M. Toes and Prof. T.W.J. Huizinga. In 2013, he defended his PhD thesis entitled: Basic disease mechanisms in Rheumatoid Arthritis.
He was trained in internal medicine and rheumatology by Prof. G.-R. Burmester (Charité University Medicine Berlin, Germany) and Prof. T.W.J. Huizinga (Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands).
Sinds 2010 he is working at the Department of Rheumatology at Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. His research interests are the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis, in particular autoantibodies and the autoreactive B cell response, as well as the glycobiology of (auto-)antibodies.
