I am a plant ecologist interested in the response of vegetation to changes in precipitation and pulsed rain events.
During my PhD I have focused on studying the effects that changing rainfall patterns predicted by climate change models would have on semiarid ecosystems, including manipulations of rain quantity, frequency and seasonal distribution of precipitation. I am also interested in xylem resistance to embolism and other drought adaptations in species occurring in these ecosystems.
Since 2008 I am looking into belowground processes in semiarid environments, such as root dynamics, soil respiration, plant-microorganism and plant-plant interactions and in my last position at the Estación Experimental del Zaidín (CSIC) I have had the opportunity to learn the most common molecular biology techniques in ecology looking at the diversity of arbuscular mycorrhiza of endangered and endemic plant species.
