J Jhonnel Alarco, Esmilsinia V Álvarez-Andrade (2011)  RISK FACTORS FOR CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASE IN YOUNG ADULTS: A GLOBAL REVIEW   Revista Medica Panacea 1: 1. 17-21
Abstract: The principal risk factors for cerebrovascular disease (CVD) in young adults have been studied in diverse parts of the world; numerous renowned researchers whose have contributed with their findings. In the present work we make a review about those risk factors that are present in this age, making a difference in the risk factors which were found in the general population. Inside the development of this aspect, we introduce a national estimate realized in the Institute of Neurological Sciences in Lima- Peru, that researched this topic in a local perspective, used to compare both findings. In this review we try to give an approximation about the study of cardiovascular disease in both young adults and elderly, a disease little studied in our media.

Abstract: Objective: To determine epidemiological characteristics of cerebrovascular disease (CVD), describe the characteristics of the study population by sex, age, origin, race, mode of onset, location, types and subtypes, symptoms, medical history and hospital mortality. Materials and methods: Materials and methods: descriptive study. Location: Location: Regional Hospital of Ica. Inclusion criteria: patients admitted with a diagnosis of stroke. Interventions: Interventions: Medical records file between 2003 and 2006. Main outcome measures: statistical analysis: percentages and measures of central tendency, tabulated in a database program using Microsoft Excel 2003 for Windows ®. Results: Of 152 patients admitted to the medical service, 119 cases were of ischemic CVD, 33 cases were hemorrhagic CVD. The main antecedent was hypertension with 75.0%. The most common symptom was motor disturbance with 80.3%, followed by speech disorders with 55.9%. The highest number of patients was found between the seventh and eighth decades of life. The lowest age was 17 years old and the highest, 102. The overall mortality was 18 cases yielding a specific case fatality rate for ischemic stroke of 0.8% and 51.5% for hemorrhagic stroke. Conclusions: Conclusions: hypertension is distinguished as the principal background modifiable, which its prevention would significantly reduce mortality.
