Koosha Dab is Senior Expert in Marine Ecology and Head of Ecology Group at the Centre for Sustainable Development and Environment (Cenesta) and Co-coordinator for Marine and Coastal Areas for West and Central Asia at the ICCA Consortium.
Holder of a Master’s degree in marine biology, he has worked in coral reef studies, participatory zoning and conservation of marine protected and conserved areas and environmental impact assessment. He has been focusing on bio-cultural diversity conservation and the role of traditional knowledge and management systems in conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems (Aichi Biodiversity Targets 11 and 18) also as part of the Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI), description of Ecologically or Biologically Significant Marine Areas (EBSAs) in the North-West Indian Ocean and the Caspian and Black Seas regions and elaboration of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) of Iran, for which he served as Drafting Committee member. Koosha has been part of the team supporting the implementation of Aichi Target 11 through diversification of IUCN governance types of protected areas in Iran, especially through the appropriate recognition of ICCAs with support of the ICCA Consortium in Iran. He is also a member of a team assessing the environmental and social impacts of industrial development in the coastal and marine ICCAs of Iran in the northwest Indian Ocean. He has authored numerous articles on marine and coral reef conservation.
