The major focus of research in my laboratory and clinical research program over the last twenty years has been in the area of translational research in the area of genetic and metabolic liver disease. Our goals have been to examine the effects of polymorphisms in common genes related to iron metabolism and inflammation and their phenotypic expression on clinical severity of a variety of liver diseases, such as hemochromatosis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatitis C and end-stage liver disease. We are particularly interested in the effect of these SNPs in development of NASH in both humans and animal models.
