Lise Musset is a pharmaceutical doctor since 2002 and has obtained her PhD from the Université Paris V in 2006. She joined the parasitology laboratory in Cayenne at the end of 2007 as Assistant Head. Since 2014 she is the focal point of the WHO collaborative center for surveillance of antimalarial drug resistance and the head of the lab since 2015.
She is specialized in understanding molecular resistance mechanisms of malaria. She demonstrated the parallel evolution of adaptive mutations associated with the emergence of atovaquone-proguanil resistance in P. falciparum. She also described a chloroquine resistance reversion in French Guiana several years after chloroquine withdrawal to treat P. falciparum.
ACTs are the first line treatment on the Guiana Shield important research programs have been developed to identified and understand ACT resistance in the region and if possible, evaluate its spread in the region.
Since 2008, she also develops studies in the field to better understand malaria transmission, Knowledge Attitudes and Practices of human population and population genetics of vivax and falciparum parasites.
