Dr. Lutz Tautz is an Associate Professor (Research) and Principal Investigator at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP) in La Jolla, CA, USA. Dr. Tautz earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2002 from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. He did postdoctoral research with Tomas Mustelin at the Burnham Institute from 2002 to 2006. Dr. Tautz has extensive experience in the development of small-molecule inhibitors, specifically of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), a group of enzymes implicated in serious human diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, and autoimmunity. Dr. Tautz’ research is supported by NIH-, AHA-, and industry-funded grants.
