I am currently the Administrative Medical Director and the Co-Director of Research in Sickle Cell Disease for the Department of Hematology/Oncology Department at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (BCHO). Prior to becoming a physician, I worked as a statistician at the National Institutes of Mental Health, a background that led to collaboration with Dr. Vichinsky for over 20 years in multi-center clinical trials, investigator sponsored local studies, and quality outcome research sponsored by HRSA and the CDC in sickle cell disease, thalassemia and other rare diseases. As a board certified Pediatrician, I have had the privilege of working during these past 20 years in the Northern California Sickle Cell Center at BCHO caring for patients with SCD. I provide education to patients and their families, other health care providers and members of our mutli-disciplinary team; have given oral presentations at national meetings; contributed to the development of standard of care guidelines in sickle cell disease; and published articles in peer-reviewed journals.
