MEK Iran

mekiran@yahoo.com
The peaceful Iranian resistance group MEK Iran, is a democratic alternative to the current Iranian government. This group defends Western values such as secularism and women's rights.

It was founded by leftist Iranian students affiliated with the Freedom Movement of Iran on September 5, 1965. It is Iran's most active opposition group.

The rule of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was opposed by the students. They considered him corrupt and oppressive. Thought that the Liberation Movement was too moderate and ineffective. MEK Iran has been committed to the overthrow of the Islamic republic, since its very beginnings.

MEK Iran was the first organization which developed a modern revolutionary interpretation of Islam. That differed sharply both the old conservative Islam of the traditional clergy and the new populist version formulated in the 1970s by Ayatollah Khomeini and his disciples.

According to the MEK, the Islam should oppose feudalism, eradicate inhumane practices, treat all as equal citizens, and socialize the means of production. Updating and modernizing the interpretation of radical Islam was the main goal of the MEK organization.

Democracy, human rights and secularism are the mantra of MEK which focuses on human rights and respect for personal property.

Massoud and Maryam Rajavi have been the leaders of the group for a long time. The principal leader of the MEK is Maryam Rajavi and her husband Massoud Rajavi was one of the group's first members.

The political foundation of the MEK group is based on their interpretation of Islam as a democratic, peaceful and tolerant religion. This is fully compatible with the modern society.
