Dr Melanie Zeppel is Senior Research Fellow, in the Centre for GenIMPACT, on the impacts of Genomic Medicine at Macquarie University. Her research experience spans across the fields of medicine, genomics, health economics, plant ecology, and climate change.

Previously, Dr Zeppel worked modelling the impacts and benefits of using precision medicine at Sydney University. Her cross-disciplinary research covers climate change, plant biology, epigenetics, and modelling plant responses to drought, elevated CO2 and heat waves.

Experiments and collaborations across in Europe, North America and Australia reported how plants recover from extreme drought, using strategies of resprouting, capacitance and embolism refilling, and comparing strategies used by different species in response to drought.

She has over 50 publications, in journals including Nature Ecology and Evolution, with an H number of 27 (Scopus, 2019), has won a Discovery Early Career Researcher award from the ARC (2012-2016), and has been awarded over $6.3 million in grant funding.
