Dr. Qudsia Tahseen has been carrying out studies on taxonomy, biodiversity and biology of soil and aquatic nematodes belonging to Orders Rhabditida, Araeolaimida, Monhysterida and Enoplida with supplementary studies on their developmental biology since several decades. In view of the scarcity of reports on these groups from India, she undertook the challanging task of exploring Indian habitats and made critical observations on the structure and morphology of free-living nematodes using LM and SEM. In view of her taxonomic expertise recognized world-wide, she remains the first Asian to be honoured with ONTA (Organization of Nematologists from Tropical America) Special Award, 2005 for sustained excellence in Nematology. Besides, she has also been elected as a Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, India and has received five national young scientist awards including those of INSA and ISCA for research excellence. She has been awarded several prestigious post-doctoral fellowships including Rothamsted International fellowship, INSA-Royal Society Fellowship, DBT Overseas Associateship, TWAS Visiting Scholar’s fellowship etc. She has visited reputed labs of Europe and America besides establishing the collaborative research links with several of them including Rothamsted Research, UK, University of California, Riverside etc. While working abroad her work was also funded by Rothamsted International, UK and National Science Foundation, US.
