Rianasoambolanoro RAKOTOSAONA is a leading researcher and teacher in the field of medicinal chemistry and natural products in Madagascar. She is the director of the Centre National d’Application de recherches Pharmaceutiques (CNARP), a research institution that focuses on the development and valorization of Malagasy medicinal and aromatic plants. She is also a Professor at the Higher School of Polytechnics of Antananarivo. She holds an HDR in Medical Chemistry from Fianarantsoa University, a PhD in Phytochemistry and Natural Products, a graduate degree in Environmental Chemistry and an engineer degree in Food Processes from the University of Antananarivo.

Her research interests include botany, ethnobotany, essential oil profiles, chemical compounds, pharmacological activity and traditional medicine. She has created a database that contains information on more than 6000 plant species, 300 essential oil profiles and 14000 ethnobotanical records. She is currently working on the identification and characterization of endemic plants with potential applications for the treatment of brain disorders and as insecticides and repellents.
