Md. Mustafa Saroar (Bangladesh) is a Professor of Urban and Rural Planning Discipline and Head of Development Studies Discipline at Khulna University in Bangladesh. He did his PhD in Climate Adaptation from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), in Bangkok, Thailand. As a Norwegian Government Scholar he spent part of his PhD research in Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. He completed his Masters in Regional Development Planning at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany as a DAAD (German Academic Exchange) scholar. He is a bachelor in Urban and Rural Planning. He has a fulltime Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree as well.
His research interest includes: climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction,livelihood and food security, restoration of multifunctional wetlands, gender responsive planning, urban environmental management and corporate social/environmental responsibility. He has 15 years experience in graduate and postgraduate level teaching, research and consultancy work. He worked for many national and international developmental organizations/institutions most notable of which are UNICEF, USAID, DFID, CGIAR, WorldFish and AIT. He has more than 20 publications in refereed international journals and conference proceedings. He has travelled some 20 countries in Asia, Europe, and Latin America; therefore established a strong professional network and ties with many individuals and institutions.
