Assistant professor Thomas Bligaard obtained his Ph.D. degree in theoretical solid state physics from the Technical University of Denmark in September 2003, and joined the faculty at the Department of Physics, Technical University of Denmark in October 2006 after a number of postdoctoral positions in Denmark with Professor Jens K. Nørskov and in Iceland with Professor Hannes Jónsson.

Thomas is innovation responsible at the department and responsible for managing industrial contracts and the group leader for "Theoretical Surface Science and Materials Informatics" at the Lundbeck Foundation’s Center for Atomic-scale Materials Design (CAMD).

His research goals are to understand and to design materials through the use of atomic-scale computer simulations and to establish the tools to do so. Besides scientific research projects, the Theoretical Surface Science and Materials Informatics group works on a number of applied projects contracted by industrial partners.
