Guewo Fokeng Magellan completed a Bachelor of Science (option Microbiology and Molecular genetic). He then obtained a Master of Science Degree (option Biotechnology and Development, Molecular Biology) with Distinction, under the supervision of Professor Mbanya Jean Claude and completed his PhD (option Biotechnology and Development, Genetic and Molecular Biology) with Distinction in 2018 under the supervision of Professor Mbacham Fon Wilfred, all in Biochemistry from the University of Yaounde I in Cameroon. He is Senior Lecturer of Molecular Biology and Genetic in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, at the University of Yaounde I. His expertise is in the domain of Genetic of Cardio-metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension and others. His research interests are in molecular epidemiology of non-communicable diseases especially diabetes and their impact on the health care system of developing countries.

After studying some human genes like Transcription Factor 7 Like 2 (TCF7L2), Peroxisome prolifertor-activated receptor gamma 2 (PPAR-ɣ2), Krüppel Like Factor 14 (KLF14), that predispose for type 2 diabetes, obesity and ketosis prone diabetes, which are growing concern in Africa and also in Cameroon, he propose the coordinate role of KLF14, a master gene which regulates both diabetes and obesity, and provides a variety drug development targets in the form of signal pathways that can reduce the progression of multiple metabolic phenotypes or the risk of their complications. He is presently working on how to use these genetic markers and others in the personalization of medicine. Magellan assists Professor Sobngwi Eugene as research associate in the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine and Metabolism (M3Lab) at the Biotechnology Centre (BTC) of the University of Yaoundé 1. He is active in other research programs includes the effect of weight lost in insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular diseases and Insulin sensitivity in patients with HIV/AIDS. He is author or co-author of more than 50 publications including abstracts, original articles, systematic reviews, books and a book chapter published in peer-reviewed journals; with more thirty communications at the National and International conferences. He also serves as an Editorial and Reviewer Board member in more than ten scientific journals.

He is a Founding Member of the Cameroon Academy of Young Scientists (CAYS) and currently work with the Cameroon Academy of Science (CAS) as Programme officer and as a liaison person between young researchers from the BTC of the University of Yaoundé 1 and the CAS.

His motivation is to make a positive impact on healthcare by producing data, contribute to the setting up and develop tools that can be used as markers for the personalization of the medicine in the fight against the diseases mentioned above.
